“We know exactly what we want – but we keep changing our minds!” (Various & Gould)

Watch what you say, people, because your words may end up as floating balloon heads on the side of a farmhouse in Germany.

Not sure if that new axiom will be memorized worldwide, but we were shocked shocked none-the-less to learn that some off-handed comment in Bed-Stuy a couple of years ago inspired Various and Gould to name a print and a mural after it.

“This line itself again was based on the talk we had with you, when we first met at Brooklynite,” explains Various and Gould about the origination of the title.

“You might not remember the exact situation, but during our conversation and while joking around in the Gallery’s garden somehow the title of the print was born, as one of us said something like ‘We know exactly what we want …’ and one of you completed: ‘… but we keep changing our minds!’ ”

Your challenge, dear BSA reader, should you choose to accept it, is to guess which one of us made such a sarcastic rejoinder. Until then enjoy this new mural piece in Brandenburg by Various and Gould.

Pure Evil goes Pop @Boxpark Gallery (London)

Pure Evil opened his show at BOXPARK in London’s Shoreditch neighborhood. BOXPARK strips and refits shipping containers to create unique, low cost, low risk, ‘box shops’. This show opens to the general public today through the month of March.

Gregory Siff “There & Back” At Siren Studios (Hollywood)

Brooklyn born Gregory Siff had his opening last night on the Left Coast at Siren Studios and today it’s open to the general public in Hollywood, CA. In addition to the new work by Siff are 100 stickers by students in the neighborhood – see the kids and Siff making them in the video below.

Art Against Knives is a youth-led charity which works to reduce the root causes of knife crime through arts initiatives that provide an alternative to violent gang culture.

Silk screen printed Urban Art Collection from Berlin Based Mother Drucker exhibited in cooperation with Art Against Knives Charity.

Mother Drucker and Art Against Knives are pleased to present As the Crow Flies, a straightforward print show which aims to highlight the direct lines between visionary urban art and fine production silk screen printing. Mother Drucker has joined forces with East London based charity Art Against Knives to raise money for their future youth community based projects through print sales from the collection.

Urban art and silkscreen printing have formed a strong relationship with each other over time. The stencil based process of silk screen printing often easily compliments the methods of application chosen by urban artists, with many concentrating their skills upon stencil cutting, spraying, collage and general paint works of every messy degree. This new collection is all about the real relationship between the artist and the printer, between the creative and the productive, between the conceptual and the deviceful. Artist and printer have put their minds together to make a quality collection of silkscreen prints.

‘As the Crow Flies’ features a range of works by European urban artists:

Penny, Nomad, Hannah Parr, Elmar Lause, Victor Ash, Various and Gould, Dolly Demoratti and Anton Unai. Limited edition prints will be available to buy from the BoxPark gallery space throughout the exhibition with donations being made to AAK from every print sale.

Art Against Knives is an East London based charity that focus on raising awareness about knife crime and creating positive youth led Arts community projects for young people living in the East London area. Since their initial hugely successful art auction in 2009 the charity has flourished and now has a great permanent gallery space in BoxPark – the world’s first pop-up mall, AAK sells afordable artwork priced from £20 – £500 from established artists, as well as students and emerging talent.

Mother Drucker is a print house and gallery based in Kreuzberg, Berlin; here they work with a wide range of artists to produce high quality limited edition silkscreen prints. They release work on their website and organise a range of shows and events. They also offer an out of house screen- printing service and screen printing courses in English.

The Opening reception for ‘As the Crow Flies’ will be held on March 1. 7-10pm. Art Against Knives Gallery, BoxPark, Shoreditch High Street, Shoreditch, London, E1 6JE

“Bone Yard Project” at Pima Air & Space Museum (Tucson, AZ)

Another mind-blowing project – curated by Medvin Sobio and Carlo McCormick and conceived by Eric Firestone – opens tomorrow in Tucson, where there is a lot of space. Carcasses of planes lovingly wrecked by artists you love; The Pima Air & Space Museum in Tucson, Arizona announces the opening of “Round Trip: Art From The Bone Yard Project” this Saturday January 28.

More than 30 artists have participated in Round Trip including DC Super 3 planes painted by graffiti artists How & Nosm, Nunca, and Retna, and a C97 cockpit by Saner, and C45 planes by Faile and Andrew Schoultz.

Various and Gould say, “Street Art Saved OUR Lives”

Street Artists Various and Gould are showing one of the more entertaining pieces at the show on Friday – entirely in the vein of their fun-loving style. The difference now is they are using their own faces and creating a self portrait for the first time, called, “Street Art Saved OUR Lives”.

The wacky duo explain the new work this way,

“Our piece is a direct response to the humorous title of the show, approaching it in a personal way. Often asked about how we collaborate, the piece shows who is steering the wheel. As many other (street) artists, we have been trying to stay anonymous as much as possible in the past.

This has not so much to do with any kind of (il)legal activities, but the wish to let the artworks be in their right place. We think this gives the viewer the possibility to judge the artwork itself without the necessity to put it in context with the person behind it. Keeping your face out of things is constant work and nevertheless everything you do conveys a message.

Sometimes it´s good to break your own rules! So we decided to make a self-portrait for this show.”

Damning MUST SEE Video: Serious Allegations Against Brooklynite

We’re not taking sides yet, but some serious allegations are being leveled by street artists Various and Gould against Brooklynite Gallery right now.

All we can say at this point is that we went to Brooklynite for what was supposed to be an interview with Various and Gould – That interview was abruptly canceled –leaving us standing in the rain. Instead, we were later emailed a link to this video by a now ex-intern (who is asking to remain anonymous). This video appears to show some bad sh*t. We’re hoping this isn’t true.

Action! That’s what is happening in the street art scene in New York,

despite the wretched economy and artists losing their dayjobs, and galleries of all types dreaming up new innovative ways to stay afloat, the street art keeps coming.

In one week only (the week we lost Michael Jackson) we hit only a few of the events going on that featured street artists – we’re considering rollerskates and interns at this point – and even if you can’t afford it, you feel rich!
