Munch Gallery Presents: “Munch Represents+” Summer Exhibition 2013. A Group Show. (Manhattan, NYC)

Munch Gallery

Opening Reception: Wednesday, July 10 from 7-9 pm
Exhibition runs from July 10 through August 11, 2013
——————————————————————————————
MUNCH REPRESENTS+ is an eclectic display of work by the eight artists officially represented by the gallery, along with two guests.
From lurking dreamscapes and uncanny flower fields to detailed black and white cosmographic explorations. From the dense Canadian forest to the decaying wood structures of places once inhabited or perhaps just imagined. It is a repeating practice of kicks and poetry assisted by lashing self-motivational punches.
The gallery is very proud to present a collection of artwork which derives from sheer passion, essence, ambition and distinction.

Munch Gallery Presents: Erik Savage AKA Radical! “Waste Forms” (Manhattan, NYC)

Munch Gallery is pleased to present ‘Waste Forms’, featuring new paintings by Erik Savage(aka RADICAL!). Since his first solo exhibition back in October 2011, Savage has investigated further into the themes of habitual consumerism and addictions, social alienation and structures. Through a new expressive style, he draws on objects common in nature, and commonly disregarded – our subjective waste. As we navigate through life’s constant beginnings and endings, the matter in between most often appears as a fluctuant disharge, but always unleashing in its isolated power. The waste forms become our narrative debris as we push through life and expedite new memories.

Savage lives and works in Troy, NY. He has shown extensively in the US, and has participated in major group exhibtions throughout Europe. Latest with representation and two sold out shows in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Miami in The House All Weekend

This weekend the fun is for Street Art in Miami and check out some of our recommendations (Best Miami Street Art: BSA Picks Awesomest for Basel ’12) for hoofing it around that we posted Wednesday. Tonight of course there are a number of grand opening parties/after parties (including Fountain), but really just being on the street is equally fun if not funner! Thanks for that adverb from 7 year old Darnell Wilsen of Brooklyn.

But not all the fun is in Miami here are a few picks of what’s happening elsewhere in the world:

“Deck the Walls” at Stolen Space (London)

Greeting cards are a nice way to say Merry Christmas to Grandma, and for suburban white middle class families to distribute photos proving that their kids are not on drugs. This is Stolen Space Christmas Show celebrates greetings cards and holiday cheer with D*Face, Word to Mother, Will Barras and David Bray among others putting their own imprimatur on Christmas. Come on, Uncle Bert and Aunt Dolittle will be there, so comb your hair, put some shoes on and get out of the house!

“Rinse & Repeat” Group Show at Ambush (Sydney, Australia)

With a collection of Australian Graffiti and Street Art Artists, “Rinse & Repeat” finds its inspiration by taking a look at the Old Masters and re-interpreting them with their own styles and techniques. An interesting proposition albeit fraught with risks – there are a few good ones here though that will delight your academic/street sensibilities. Included in the line up are: Adnate (AWOL Crew), Bridge Stehli, Cam Wall, Carl Steffan, Deams (AWOL Crew), Fintan Magee, Guido van Helten, Phibs, Shannon Crees,  Slicer (AWOL Crew) , Team and Teazer.

Skewville in France, Quel Surprise! (Lille, France)

Hope they realize what they have gotten themselves into, but Vertikal Gallery is hosting Brooklyn Street Art collective Skewville for a solo show entitled “Be Inside”. Considering we have had one or two Lillians in Brooklyn putting work up on the streets over the last few years, this sounds like a cultural exchange program of some kind, right?

Get Your Smashing Pumpkins on At Crest Arts Saturday

This Saturday is for carving pumpkins and the right place to do this venerable Autumn tradition is in the garden patio at Crest Hardware in Williamsburg. Franklin the Pig will be hosting and probably eating pumpkin guts that spill out of your jack-o-lantern. There’s a carving contest too and you’ll have some pre-Halloween fun before going out to get smashed.

RADICAL!
Upside Down Frowns
Opening of ‘Upside Down Frowns’ exhibition at Munch Gallery
Works by RADICAL!
October 21 – November 20, 2011
Opening reception friday October 21, 2011, 7-10 pm
New York, NY, October 7, 2011 – Munch Gallery is excited to present ‘Upside Down Frowns’ by RADICAL! The exhibition features all new works, and site-specific paintings and installations. RADICAL! was recently part of the ambitious Living Walls Albany, 2011 and has within the past three years shown in New York, Washington, D.C., Oakland, California, London, Tel Aviv, Moscow, and Basel, Switzerland. His narratives are fragments of a larger urban landscape and never intentionally political, but one cannot escape the underlying social comment that seeps through the works and the characters involved. Needles and pills are some of the reoccurring objects and they act not only as symbols of violence, but also as metaphors for a social alienation, fear and lack of communication. The artists will be present at the opening reception friday October 21, 7-10 pm.

The exhibition runs through November 20, 2011
