INTI Hits 11 Story Building in Lodz

Five days into the progress of this new 11 story wall, Street Artist Inti is gathering some high-flying attention in Lodz. Some neighbors have actually come to the site with binoculars to more closely watch the process up there and to debate with other bystanders if this is going to be the largest mural completed in Europe when finished.  For Inti is has become an all consuming pleasure and battle combined into one.

Urban Forms 2013: ROA Goes First in Poland

Brooklyn-Street-Art-Urban-Forms-Banner-740

In Poland the Urban Forms festival is underway with its new installations of large format mural works in Lodz this month, beginning with the Belgian ROA. The urban naturalist continues to explore the animal kingdom, but usually not the cute ones you find in cartoons or on inspirational posters in your kid sisters bedroom with phrases like “Hang In There!” emblazoned across them hanging adorably off a tree limb. ROA has us sort of stumped with this playful pack of Polish polecats – a combination of realistic and fantastic weasels who won’t sit still as they careen and cavort across a characteristically colossal wall – the 22nd or 23rd such mural in the series for Urban Forms.

Urban Forms in Lodz, Poland Ready To Go

ROA Inaugurates, INTI to Hit 11-Story Wall

Today we have a little reminder of the upcoming third edition of the Galeria Urban Forms Festival in Lodz, Poland, which will be really take off in the beginning of September. Already new work has begun from Etam Crew from Lodz with a mural on Politechniki Avenue inspired by Julian Tuwim’s poem “W aeroplanie” (“On the Airplane”). The second one in advance is by Gdansk artist M-City.

On the roster for this year is ROA from Belgium, who will inaugurate the festival shortly, and many are talking about the 11-floor skyscraper that INTI from Chile is going to paint, which will be the largest in Lodz and one of the largest in Europe. Below you can see the one INTI did last year entitled “Holy Warrior”. Also on tap is a 3D pavement painting by Ryszard Paprocki and other guests include 3TTMan – the Spaniard whose work you saw in BSA coverage of Atlanta last week along with INTI – and TONE, PROEMBRION, and CEKAS from Poland.

Urban Forms will have a variety of related events during the nearly month long festival that celebrate the existing 24 murals along with the new ones, including live music, a laser light show, bus and bicycle tours. BSA will be bringing you exclusive coverage of the new murals as they go up, so stop by to see brand new work by these artists over the next month.

New from Lodz in Poland; ETAM Crew and MCity

New Additions to the Great Open Gallery of Polish “Urban Forms”

As an update to our posting a few weeks ago about Urban Forms we have here some exclusive images of new work in Lodz from some local Street ETAM crew and M-City.

The ETAM crew are Przemysław Blejzyk (“Sainer”) and Matthew Gapski (“Bezt”) and are both still students at the University of Lodz but have already blown minds with their grandly eclectic characters, attention to textural nuances and their talent with color.  You can see their influences from other Street Artists/illustrators with higher profiles, but their style continues to evolve into something purely theirs. ETAM haven’t yet begun to travel the circuit of cities around the world that are blooming with Street Art, but you know it’s just a matter of time.

A graphic designer, muralist and lover of architecture, M-City is also a professor in Gdansk. His distinctive monochromatic industrial age subjects and multi-functioned diagrammed machinery transform unusual spaces. He knows how to select a good context in which to unveil work that is at once simple and complex – and usually expansive. M-City has completed perhaps a couple of hundred murals around the world in the last decade so it’s great to see this work a little closer to home here in Poland.

Large Murals Adorn The City Of Lodz In Poland

The city of Lodz in Poland is promoting the work of Street Artists from around the world as a way of creating a cultural re-invigoration of this city whose population is three quarters of a million.  Begun in 2009, the Urban Forms Gallery has installed more than 20 large square paintings on elevations in the city center.

The public/private partnership and the addition of the artwork has attracted business and investment, and of course urban exploring tourists who can follow a map to see the works within a couple of hours. As a model for employing the talents of Street Artists to create public art in service of the re-invigoration of a city, this one appears to be very successful at respecting the work while adding value to a neighborhood, district, city, and community.

The roster of nearly two dozen works features international Street Artists like Os Gemeos from Brazil, Aryz from Spain, and Remed from France along with one of Poland’s proud Street Art sons named M-City from Gdynia, a city three hours north of here, and two hometown local talents Bezt and Sainer from the ETAM Crew.

Here are a number of images of many of the walls that have been going up in the last few years.  Special thanks to Michał Bieżyński for sharing these images with us exclusively for BSA readers.
