BSA Images Of The Week: 08.23.26

Welcome to BSA Images of the Week!

“I’m not mad at them. But I am. But I’m not.”

Make up your mind, athleisure-clad San Francisco! Is this new vertical double barrel Taiwanese graffiti slam on a high-rise bad, or is it hella dope?

“I get really tired of people with no artistic sensibility who need to slap their tags up everywhere,” says dogwalker Natalie Price in the San Francisco Standard about the conflicted feelings people have about this overnight installation. ““so it’s nice to see someone taking the time to stylize their letters.”

The penalties for painting in gang territory are steeper than you may expect in El Salvador, but mural festivals like PigmenTrip Muralism Festival has been slowly taking over walls for the last 8 years. Controversial human rights accusations against President Nayib Bukele since his war on gangs began in 2022 aside, this news story says people are happy to see these new murals on walls and are breathing easier these days.  Festival founder Isaac Sosa says in Barron’s that “art a “magical tool” for “social transformation”.

Finally, in the ongoing debate about who controls the wall, who gets to redefine public space, and whose claim to it has more power, Glasgow brought 23 international and local artists to paint columns under Kingsbridge last year, but the wealth of one more (yawn) Batman movie has painted over all of them suddenly. Some were pretty fresh paint, having been completed in the last few months. In their rush to report the stars of the movie, the breathless Scottish press doesn’t bother to mention the artists’ names or credit their work. Here you are: The “Art Under the Bridge” installation comprises 23 painted pillars by these street/graffiti/mural artists: Phill Blake, Mr Cenz, Conzo Throb, Mikhaela Martin, Vernis, Molly Hankinson, Erin Bradley Scott, Robert Cook, Good Night Vienna, Wee Thistles, Frodrik, Emsky, Ikul, Keiti Forbes, Gillian Law, Christian Kerr, Kitsa, Nitram Joke, and Aroe.

Here is our weekly interview with the street, this week featuring Cern, Dan Bunn, Delphinoto, Homsick, IMK, Jaek El Diablo, Ratch, ROMAK, Sinclair, and of course San Francis of Assisi. Go forth.

BSA Images Of The Week: 01.12.25

Welcome to Images of the Week. Our hearts are heavy as we think about our brothers and sisters in Los Angeles—their losses, pain, and fears. We’re deeply grateful to the firefighters and communities who are stepping up and looking out for one another. The bond between the graffiti and street art communities in LA and NY runs deep, and hearing some of the stories coming out of this disaster is heartbreaking.

If you can help, please consider these reputable organizations:

American Red Cross – Los Angeles Region – Provides emergency shelter, food, and health services to disaster victims.

Volunteering: To inquire about volunteer opportunities, email VolunteerServices.LosAngeles.CA@redcross.org or call (866) 548-8226.

Red Cross Los Angeles: Find a Shelter

The Salvation Army – Southern California Division – Offers disaster relief services, including shelter, food, and clothing to those in need.

Los Angeles Regional Food Bank – Distributes food to individuals and families affected by disasters.

World Central Kitchen – Provides meals to displaced families and first responders during disasters.

California Fire Foundation Wildfire & Disaster Relief Fund

Before donating items or volunteering, it’s advisable to contact these organizations directly to understand their current needs and ensure your contributions are most effective. Thank you.
