Welcome to BSA Images of the Week!

From throw-ups to tags, banal to topical, paste-ups to high-gloss murals, the New York pays you back in grit and passion when you keep your eyes open. This summer the heat is on – and you really only need shorts, a tee-shirt, and comfy footwear to get lost in this city that is speaking to you at all hours and pouring poetic discourse into your head and heart. As hard as it may be sometimes, we are always thankful to be in a city full of people and artists that inspire daily.

Here’s our weekly interview with the street, this week featuring: Invader, Elle, Goog, Urban Russian Doll NYC, Homesick, King Baby, Miss 17, Cramcept, You Are Not Alone, Rambo, Dense, Beep Beep, Red Eye Mob, Crypto Compadres, and Dominator.

Welcome to BSA Images of the Week!

It’s 4th of July weekend here, a patriotic holiday that marks the US independence. This year the overarching oft-repeated phrase is that America is more polarized than ever, perhaps on the verge of a civil war. But really? Where is this theme coming from? Is someone trying to con us into being deeply distrustful of each other and angry? Does anyone gain by making us fight?

We see New Yorkers, who are some of the most diverse and varied lot you are likely to ever find, treating each other daily with fairness; giving each other more space than ever to be who we are. We walk into restaurants, museums, buses, stores, laundromats, delis, offices, gymnasiums, parks – and usually find people being considerate, warm, respectful of differences, more inclusive than ever. New York proves time and again that people WANT to get along, and we DO get along with each other despite our huge differences, because we really have more things in common. That’s not rhetoric or glossing things over; that’s daily experience in this big weird melting pot of beautiful New York City.

Thanks to all the street artists who keep bringing it and sharing it.

Here’s our weekly interview with the street, this week featuring: Praxis, Gane, HOACS, Degrupo, Such, King Baby, Nemze, L.A. Hope Dealer, MFK, Renda Writer, Peek, and RB.

BSA Images Of The Week: 05.03.20 / Dispatch From Isolation # 42

The Majority of lawmakers in Congress are millionaires.

Nancy Pelosi? She’s worth $115 million. Mitch McConnell? $34 million – his wife Elaine Chow has $30 million.

Republicans or Democrats – it doesn’t matter. The median is just over a million. Just like you, right?

Most of the people “reporting” on them are also millionaires.

Rachel Maddow gets $7 million a year. Sean Hannity makes $40 million a year. Anderson Cooper $12 million a year. Joe Scarborough $8 million a year. Even Erin Burnett, who started her professional career as a financial analyst for Goldman Sachs GS, has a net worth of $13 million.

“Right” wing or “Left” wing, it doesn’t matter – these “news” reporters are millionaires looking at the world through your eyes, right?

We’re all in this together, right?

Maybe this is why there are few positive news stories or policy debates or discussions or “Special Investigation” programs about student debt forgiveness, housing issues, workers rights, unions, Medicare for All, rent strikes, a guaranteed Basic Universal Income on the main networks and news sites. There are NO grand, sweeping financial/job/infrastructure solutions for everyday people that are being proposed, or being reported. There are more people out of work and without a safety net than any time in your life, and there are no big solutions to this?

Huh.

In other news, we’re still quarantining inside. 18,610 people are dead from Covid 19 in New York. That is 6 times as many as we lost on 9/11 – Please send us your pics of art in the streets! We love to hear from you. Spread love!

So here’s our weekly interview with the streets, this week featuring Ines, JJ Veronis, King Baby, One-Tooth, Moe, Pollyn, Praxis-VGZ, and Woe.

Dan Witz is Such a Baby : New VIDEO

It’s the sulking ill-behaved fussiness, the middle of the night eruption of screaming, the “world revolves around me” attitude.  You’ve seen this before, usually poking their head out of a passing stroller, ear piercing tantrum in full effect, throwing any available object, hoping to rip a hole in the sky. This is the King Baby.

Stills of Dan Witz and his installations in Stavanger, Norway, courtesy of Nuart and Spiffy Films.

Unveiled in this brand new video scored by the artist on piano, this “King Baby” is peeking out at you from behind the metal grating as you saunter through the narrow streets of Stavanger.  Street Artist Dan Witz did a number of installations at Nuart 2011 and is here to tell you about the origins of this full-immersion exploration of someone he likens to certain artists. You know any King Babies?
