DABSMYLA | THINGS THAT CAN’T BE SEEN

Curated by: Roger Gastman

OPENING: Saturday, October 20, 12-7pm

8070 Beverly Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90048

Announcing THINGS THAT CAN’T BE SEEN, DABSMYLA’s highly anticipated solo exhibition in Los Angeles that explores unseen forces, powers and intangibles in the world around us. The exhibition will be on view October 20 through November 11, 2018, located at 8070 Beverly Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90048.

Husband-and-wife visual artist duo, DABSMYLA employ a shared design language that dictates subject matter, positioning, color theory and perspective. With this established framework and unspoken set of rules—strengthened by over a dozen years of working together simultaneously—their singular goal is to tell an expansive story that is wholly unique to their own experiences.

With THINGS THAT CAN’T BE SEEN, DABSMYLA have reached beyond the world where their characters have lived in the past,  and created plausibly realistic situations and settings connecting to these invisible energies and entities.

“We wanted to bring our subconscious thoughts to life in this new body of work and have spent the past two years exploring and painting these ideas, broadening the scope of our universe” says DABSMYLA.

Panorama is of particular importance in DABSMYLA’s work. Micro points-of-view get referenced in larger scopes of vision, creating an interconnectedness amongst paintings both big and small. Much in the same way a person unlocks a greater eye-scope as they lessen the zoom on a camera, one gets the understanding that a solitary subject is in fact but a minuscule element that makes up larger and recurring motifs.

It’s this warmth and willingness to share which makes DABSMYLA’s art completely unique. Exploring tactile themes through sight, touch and sound, there are no boundaries so that the lines between real life and dreamscape are non-existent.

Fresh off their inspiring floral installation at BEYOND THE STREETS, DABSMYLA have created over 20 large scale interior and floral paintings, works on paper, handmade ceramics and an unforgettable installation. THINGS THAT CAN’T BE SEEN,  proves to be DABSMYLA’s most ambitious show to date.
