Celaya Brothers Gallery Presents: Agostino Iacurci "Trompe-l'oeil" (Mexico City, Mexico)

Read from the press release below:

Celaya Brothers Gallery is pleased to present

by Agostino Iacurci

Opening November 10, 19 hrs

Celaya Brothers Gallery ends its 2017 Residency Program with Italian artist Agostino Iacurci, where he produced a selection of sculptures, paintings and drawings for his upcoming solo show Trompe-l’œil opening on November 10 in the framework of Gallery Weekend.

The architecture and patterns in his paintings are inspired on his walks around the Roma neighborhood of Mexico City and some of the decorative details in the gallery. The palette of colors he has chosen are a mix of hues from the facades of the neighborhood houses. Iacurci’s work is usually figurative with synthetic forms, but for this exhibition he is venturing into the conceptual realm, taking away figurative elements to display the background, leaving these spaces open to interpretation, a subtle contemplation. These “empty” paintings will be paired with plant sculptures, which the artist views as a game, a trompe l’oeil of some sort. The sculptures are made of wood to emphasize the irony of making plants with what once was a plant.

We hope you will join us at the opening,
