A tuning fork mystery infused background soundtrack suspends the slowly rotating portrait by Vhils as you hover above and within it like an alien discovering the topography of a vast cityscape. The laser cut Styrofoam enables such an exquisite experience for discovery that feels otherworldly, and then you think, “but how do I clean this when the dust builds up?”
A. Don’t be so plebeian, B. canned air, C. when was the last time you dusted anything, I’m the one who keeps this apartment clean. You just track in dirt from the streets. I just mopped this floor!
Vhils: Dissection
In this other video for the EDP foundation from Vhils, we see a further exploration of materials and construction in reverse. With the echoes of its history washing around, the subway car is dismantled; a furtherance of the concepts that the Street Artist employs in the process of creation.

Its the simple things in life that make summer in the city such a blast. Like spraying paint with a fire extinguisher and collaborating with your bud on a wall while the sun shines. What’s not to like?

And on a different note, the menacing brilliance of this outlaw reeks of mockery and societal unraveling. Yet, sexy and funny and built on a pop culture series of references that you have forgotten or never heard of. You had us at Tricky Dick.
Cranio in Shoreditch, London
In what has evidently been turned into a commercial wall that advertizes with Street Art, this four panel Shoreditch spot is next to continuous traffic and gets plenty of eyeballs. Cranio is featured here popping up and down ladders with a soundtrack of peppy celebration music to promote a gambling site with images of sports.
London is looking alive and on top of things at mid-winter, with a great variety of materials and techniques, imaginative styles and of course varying results, according to your tastes. During a quick trip on a somewhat blizzardish day, photographer Geoff Hargadon found “tough conditions: snowy, cold as f***, and a camera battery that refused to stay charged.” Tough going for the intrepid Street Art photog you see. Of course the upside of inclement weather is that no one is outside to obscure your shot. Except the falling snow, that is.
From the comfort of you warmly glowing flatscreen, this selection of pieces looks like Street Art in London is largely mural based, right now, as much of the scene continues to be. The players are more or less familiar to your eyeballs, with a few newbies on the scene.

You thought it would never end, but here it is, last day of August, and you have gorged yourself on as many popsicles and watermelon slices and street festival delicacies as possible and blasted your eardrums at free concerts, splashed and sunburned in the city pool, barfed off the edge of a roof BBQ party, and danced naked on the beach in Fort Tilden while your buddy Drew hit up the wall and Jenelle drew an arrow on her inner thigh with a sharpie. All the summer shares in the manicured Hamptons are having their last blow outs and next weekend there are a bunch of new art shows opening for fall so everybody will be coming back. For now let’s just have a fish fry and play some more. Also, pass that marker.

Thinkspace is pleased to present the highly anticipated Marvelous Expeditions by Dabs Myla and Friends. In the spirit of travel and all things wonderfully itinerant, acclaimed duo Dabs Myla will take over the gallery space and will feature new work and an installation alongside curated selections from 32 of their closest and most inspiring artist friends. The gallery will in effect become a locus of meeting and communal exchange, as artists from all over the world are brought together by Dabs Myla to share their experiences of traveling through its landscapes.
Dabs Myla’s meticulously executed work combines narrative illustration, photorealistic drawing, and architectural rendering with a playful bawdiness and irreverence. Cast frequently as themselves in their imagery and host of characters, the artist pair create worlds of contentious and playful encounters against the seductive chaos of the urbanscape. The city features prominently in their work as the stomping ground for their numerous adventures. When looking at their pieces one has the impression of aesthetic confluence and fluidity, of two minds toiling together as one. The viewing experience is the keen pleasure of looking into another world and enjoying a story, and just as it is with the unrelenting freneticism of the city, there is always a new discovery to punctuate every observation right around every corner – and we’d be remiss to exclude mention of the donuts and street meat.
As artists and urban enthusiasts Dabs Myla translate their experience of the world through a distinctly collaborative amalgamation of their styles and rendering strengths. Their work conveys a synchronicity of vision and aesthetic uncommonly allied and collusive. It is constituted by their shared love of travel, food, graffiti, illustration, and urbanity. Just as all productive chaos emerges from unlikely places, the momentum of travel fosters unexpected discoveries and collisions of worlds. Dabs and Myla, originally from Melbourne Australia and now currently based in LA, are no strangers to this productive geographic disruption, and this project seeks to celebrate the unexpected encounters and inspirations catalyzed by travel. They have invited each of their featured friends to produce a piece for the exhibition on a 16” x 20” wood panel, and with these set material parameters each artist will work their magic. The series is loosely meant to invoke exploration and travel, and each participating artist will metabolize their impressions of the theme differently through their respective styles, voices, and memories.
Marvelous Expeditions showcases the duo’s love of friends, collegiality, exchange, and the proliferation of vision and variety that thrives alongside constant movement and displacement. These are the exploratory impulses of travel that lead to constant revisions, reconstitutions, influences, and to the indelible encounters that change everything.

Dabs Myla:
Melbourne natives Dabs and Myla are a dynamic duo who have lived, worked and soaked in the sun of Los Angeles since 2009. Dabs started painting graffiti in 1995, and began teaching Myla the ropes of writing about ten years later, after they met while studying illustration in art school and fell in love. Soon afterward, they decided they liked their collaborative pieces better than their individual work, and from that point on, they worked together exclusively, as Dabs Myla. Inspired by graffiti, food, travel and their wonderful chaotic life together as a couple, their paintings play Dabs’ mischievous and sometimes ribald characters off Myla’s photorealistic cityscapes. Since their move to California, they have never spent more than a few hours apart. They say, “I guess we are pretty lucky… two peas in a pod! Two crazy, workaholic, mad dorks in a pod! After years of living, painting walls and working together, we have only become closer, stronger and even more in sync. Every day we wake up, paint all day, and keep each other entertained with constant chatter and stupid jokes. Who could ask for more out of life?”

Hey everyone, see below the link to a video I made to promote my new solo show “The Other Side Show” opening in London 12 July at Roktik Gallery in East London. It will be my first solo show in four years and centers around the theme of duality – light and dark and black and white. The image of the owl will still be used in many of the pieces, but will have more errie and playful associations with video, installations and two new print releases that will glow in the dark.
New Works by Dscreet
Returning to the gallery space is famed London street artist Dscreet with his first solo exhibition in four years entitled “The Other Side Show.” Opening 12 July at Roktic Gallery in Brick Lane, the exhibit will feature brand new works based around Dscreet’s iconic owl in the form of paintings, installations, media and a limited edition print release.
“The Other Side Show” will be Dscreet’s most ambitious exhibit to date creating works reflecting themes of duality, death and the legacies we leave behind after departing from this world. Most notable as a member of London’s premiere street art crew Burning Candy, these new works reveal a darker side of Dscreet’s art and showcase his range as a fine artist. Aside from his background in letter based graffiti Dscreet’s painted owls, his patented image, are recognized internationally on the street. His gallery art further explores the various meanings associated with the iconography of owls. In many cultures the owl is considered to be a symbol of wisdom and perception while in others it is considered to be a “deathsayer” and symbol of evil.
In order to realize these interpretations, the gallery space will be dark with flashing strobe lights to create an eerie, yet playful atmosphere. Projections will play on a constant loop while the 2 brand new print releases will glow in the dark embodying the duality of light and darkness of the show’s overarching theme.
The highlights of the show will be working in pairs with each representing its opposite. Two doors invite the viewer to step through to “the other side”. Two murals divide the room into “This Side” and “That Side” while two smoking birdhouses will invite viewers to look inside both at themselves and to view a physical emulation representing the core of the confusing duality. Audiences will encounter a film installation on loop of a Michael Jackson impersonator that will show a slightly bizarre and off putting interpretation of the King of Pop. While the film celebrates the iconic singer’s legacy, it forces audiences to question whether the iconic images of Jackson’s music and appearance are his true legacy despite the more publicly dark aspects that shroud his personal life.
For Dscreet, “The Other Side Show” is a deeply personal exploration of life and death that reflect his own near death experience at 17. After a drunken night out, he aggravated a blood clot in his brain causing him to realize his own impending demise, only to be saved by a paramedic before crossing over to the other side. The heart of the work questions how one will be remembered: by their light or dark side? Will your legacy be what you did under your real name or by an alternative pseudonym used for creative endeavors? Struggling with this concept as a working artist, this new body of work is a chance to reflect on his own legacy. Revealing his own thoughts on notion, Dscreet reveals:
Whilst dying I had begun to think about the point of existence and all that heaviness and what I would leave behind; aside from some ripped cones, empty bottles, a couple of sobbing girls and my family who would be very sad of course, who else would really care and what had I done or given to this world really, pretty much nothing at all…It was a shakeup and turning point and I believe it made me more focused on leaving a mark through my art; via graffiti I cloned myself a new more creatively expressive self.
So now I’m 2 people and 2 X 17 years old, living in a world defined by absolutes. It’s time for a review, to confront myself in a mirror and wonder is this reflection any closer to the truth or somewhere in-between, can there be one without the other?

Dscreet has been painting graffiti for 20 years as a member of various influential crews like Burning Candy. He is notorious for his electrified owl image of which he has painted thousands all across the world. He has previously shown work in galleries in New York, Paris, Lyon, Melbourne, London, Berlin, Trieste, Miami, LA, Sheffield. His work has also been featured on Channel 4 documentaries like Robbo vs Banksy, The Burning Candy 3 Minute Wonder and the BBC News.
Aside from painting on the streets, Dscreet works in film and creates sculptural installations to house the work. His work is part of the V & A Museum’s street art print collection and he has created videos for street artist Dabs & Myla and Conor Harrington as well as the latest music video for The Duke Spirit. He has also been published in numerous street art & graffiti books including Graffiti 365, London Street Art and New York Street Art.

Our weekly interview with the streets, this week featuring Burning Candy, Deeker, DsCreet, Earl Greyhound, Goya, Jimmy Snatch, KARMA, Kill, Nineta, Paul Richard,Plasma Slug, Shin Shin, Skewville, Tek33, and UFO
The block party in Bushwick provided by Factory Fresh Gallery and the app called All City turned out a number of new Brooklyn Street Art pieces on a block long installation, complete with friends, fans, and a taco stand. Included in the offering was this surprise collab with Faile and Bast, auspiciously appearing the morning of the event like a pre-Christmas gift wrapped in razor wire. The news of the piece travelled fast and while Ad Deville couldn’t find his red carpet, he did post a velvet rope to hold back the crowd. That didn’t stop Futura from climbing on top of his car to get the perfect shot.
And here we move to a British invasion of sorts with Geishas and Primates from Hush and K-Guy respectively. XAM has been installing some pretty cool looking bird houses around town equipped with LED lights on their porches that illuminate when the sun sets. Infinity and VUDU’s pieces for the Showpaper box project adds to the conversation on the street with a beaming signal tower atop the box.
K-Guy’s recent “Primates” piece, including this one that appears to be pretty fresh, have been appearing around Brooklyn suddenly. Apparently its meaning is reference to the growing perception of hypocrisy in the Catholic church, particularly as pertains to pedophilia coverups, its position on contraception, gay rights, among other issues.
And finally the 800 pound pink gorilla in the group, Samson from Albany, began his audacious cityscape project directly beside his hero/shero Sten & Lex. The neighbor next door liked it so much Samson will be back to continue the piece – which is part of a much grander scale piece on urban decay, development, and renewal that he hopes to stage in the future.
Brooklyn Street Artists Paint 200 Foot Wall, Burning Candy Crew Debut Film at Bushwick Block Party
All City, the international street art and graffiti app, is partnering up with Factory Fresh gallery in Bushwick, Brooklyn to open up 200 feet of wall and turn it over to Brooklyn street artists. Chris Stain, Gaia, Skewville, Imminent Disaster and several guests artists will be tackling the project. Tek33 and Dscreet of London’s Burning Candy crew will also be in town painting and premiering their film Dots.
